Brief Zakynthos’ history
The island of Zakynthos, which Homer describes as Yliessa, ie wooded, was named after its first inhabitant, Zakynthos, son of the king of Phrygia Dardanus. Then the island was conquered by Arkeisios, a descendant of the King of Kefalonia, Kefalos, Laertes’ father and grandfather of Odysseus. Therefore Zakynthos was perambulated in the Kingdom of Odysseus, who took part in the Trojan war with twelve ships. But it was after his return and the killing of the suitors (20 of them were from Zakynthos), that the Zakynthians rebelled and won their island of the Kingdom of Odysseus.
